Chelsea's Carabao Cup clash with Brentford in doubt as Thomas Frank makes Premier League demand

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has urged Premier League and Carabao Cup organisers to consider postponing their respective upcoming fixtures, meaning Chelsea's trip to the Bees on Wednesday is now in doubt.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side's trip to Southampton on Saturday, Frank said he had been in touch with the Premier League, as well as other managers in the league, with the latter in agreement that matches need to be postponed to help control the problem.

Frank found out midway through Thursday morning's press conference that the Brentford camp now has four more positive Covid-19 cases, taking the total to 13 among players and staff.

"We think we should postpone the full round of Premier League games this weekend," he said, via Sky Sports.

"Covid cases are going through the roof at all Premier League clubs, everyone is dealing with it and having problems.

"To postpone this round and also the Carabao Cup round would give everyone a week at least, or four or five days to clean and do everything at the training ground so everything is clean and you break the chain."

If other managers agree with Frank as he claims, then organisers of both competitions will be pressured into making a big decision ahead of the weekend.

Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea are due to play Everton on Thursday night, before travelling to Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday and Brentford in the cup midway through next week.

Club's are already finding it difficult to navigate through the hectic Christmas schedule, and the added Covid issues have understandably made that challenge even more difficult, further postponements could be a distinct possibility.
