Chelsea's biggest transfer surprise has turned into Frank Lampard's most trustworthy player

While Chelsea were bringing in all the attacking talent in the summer, there were question marks over whether or not they had done enough to strengthen the defence.

Ben Chilwell was a big-money transfer to come into the side, while Thiago Silva as a free transfer was seen as a bit of a risk, due to his age.

But what they didn’t sort at the beginning of the campaign was a goalkeeper, and Kepa Arrizabalaga had another few bad matches.

However, Chelsea did manage to get their man, Edouard Mendy, a player that maybe many Blues supporters were not that aware of.

But the club’s technical and performance advisor Petr Cech was fully aware of the Senegal international and made it clear he was the man to go for.

And it has certainly paid off, with another solid performance in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

There has been a lot of faith in the 28-year-old and he has really paid that back and there is one statistic that has really shone through.

Mendy now has the most amount of clean sheets in the Premier League, but he also has matched Cech’s early Chelsea record.

In his first 11 matches as a Chelsea player, Cech recorded eight clean sheets and conceded only three goals.

Mendy has matched that record in his opening 11 matches for the Blues, and Chelsea really seem to have found their Cech successor.

It’s an impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge for the new goalkeeper, and he has become a massively important member of Frank Lampard’s side.
