Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has sent a message of support to fellow England teammate Luke Shaw after the Three Lions' 2-1 win over Denmark in the semi-finals at Euro 2020.
Chilwell, 24, hasn't featured in a single minute yet at this European Championships. This is despite the 24-year-old being a vital part of the Chelsea team which won the Champions League trophy in May and also finished in the top four of the Premier League.
The ex-Leicester full-back featured in a total of 42 games in all competitions last season, contributing a total of 11 goal contributions. Despite these great stats, the Blues defender is up against stern competition in the English defence in the form of Luke Shaw.
The Manchester United star has been England's first choice left-back at Euro 2020, with Shaw one of the standout performers so far in the tournament.
In the five out of six games that he has featured in so far, the ex-Southampton defender has contributed three assists for Gareth Southgate's side.
These statistics make the 25-year-old undroppable. Even without the stats, his constant threat with crosses and driving runs from the left side have cause severe problems to opposition defences.
It's an unfortunate situation for aforementioned Champions League winner Chilwell, but despite the disappointment of being left out of the starting eleven for every game in the competition, Chilwell demonstrated once again that this team are a collective and not a team of individuals like Reece James illustrated in a recent social media post.
The Chelsea defender commented with the flame emoji on Shaw's latest Instagram post celebrating the win on Wednesday night.
Covid-19 is another factor contributing to the lack of game time for the Chelsea player, after Chilwell and teammate Mason Mount were told to isolate after coming into close contact with Billy Gilmour, who registered a positive coronavirus test in the aftermath of Scotland's 0-0 draw with the Three Lions in the group stages.
Unless an unexpected injury is picked up by Shaw in the final against Italy on Sunday, Chilwell will likely end the Euro 2020 campaign having not featured in any matches.
Even if Shaw was to suffer up a knock, Southgate has shown that ex-Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier can fill in at left-back.
The Atletico Madrid star played in the left-back position in England's first game of the tournament against Croatia and came off the bench against Denmark to feature on the opposite side of the field.
