'Chelsea ruined Drinkwater!' - Fans mock midfielder amid Aston Villa's horror show vs Man City

It has been a nightmare return to Premier League action for Danny Drinkwater so far as the Chelsea midfielder started for Aston Villa for the first time during his loan spell.

The former Premier League title winner with Leicester City joined Aston Villa on loan earlier this week, having had a difficult first half of the season on loan at Burnley.

Having only made two appearances for the Clarets during his loan spell, he returned to Chelsea, only to head out on loan again to join Dean Smith's side in their battle to avoid relegation.

But it has not been the best of starts for Drinkwater or his new side as they conceded four goals in the first half at Villa Park against Manchester City.

Riyad Mahrez scored twice for Pep Guardiola's men, with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus also on target before half time as City threatened to run riot against Villa.

And Drinkwater will not want to see City's second goal back, having been dispossessed in his own box, before Mahrez fired home his - and Manchester City's - second goal of the game.

It was a moment to forget for the Chelsea loanee, and it has got some fans talking on social media, with some supporters not likely to forget the mistake in a hurry.

Here's what some people have been saying about the midfielder.

This is only Drinkwater's second appearance in the Premier League this season, having only played in a Carabao Cup tie and one top flight match for Burnley.

But coincidentally, his one appearance for Burnley also came against Manchester City in a 4-1 win for Guardiola's side at Turf Moor.
