Chelsea release ticket and travel refund information for Bayern Munich Champions League tie

Chelsea have confirmed that tickets purchased for their Champions League round of 16 away fixture against Bayern Munich will be refunded after the decision was made for the game to be played behind closed doors.

Local German authorities made the call due to the spread of the coronavirus outbreak that has seen other countries take similar steps.

Italy is in full lock down due to the virus with fans having already been told to stay away from matches in France and Spain.

Chelsea released a statement on their official website after their match with Bayern Munich was moved behind closed door: "Chelsea supporters who purchased a ticket for the game from the club will receive a refund.

"Those who paid by credit or debit card will receive the refund within 10 working days to the original card used. If you paid by cash then the club will contact you to arrange a refund.

"Supporters who booked a travel package via our official travel partner CTM will automatically receive a full refund of the travel and ticket costs. If you have arranged travel and accommodation independently then you will need to contact those companies yourself about any possible refunds."

The club added: "Chelsea Football Club regrets any financial loss, inconvenience and disappointment caused to supporters but we are sure our fans understand these are exceptional circumstances beyond our control."

Members of the UK government, civil service and relevant departments and agencies met on Monday March 9 for a COBR meeting in Whitehall to discuss similar plans for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

It was decided that sports events, including Cheltenham horse racing festival, would go ahead as planned, although football.london understand that a number of Premier League clubs are already planning for their games to be taken behind closed doors.
