Chelsea release new statement over Stamford Bridge development and future plans

Chelsea have released a statement acknowledging the end of their planning permission for the Stamford Bridge redevelopment.

The Blues put in planning permission in March 2017, however that is set to come to an end on Tuesday [March 31] with the Blues having not made a start on the redevelopment.

Chelsea were set to build a new 60,000-seater stadium on the same site that the current Stamford Bridge is.

However, in the summer of 2018, the plans were halted with the club citing 'unfavourable economic conditions'.

Chelsea: The season so far

If any work is one day eventually be done, then all proceedings will have to start up once again with the planning permission about to come to an end.

The statement from the Blues read : "Chelsea Football Club acknowledges that the planning permission we obtained for a new stadium expires on 31st March 2020.

"We are grateful to all our fans and stakeholders, especially Hammersmith & Fulham Council, for their patience and understanding in the matter.

"We will continue to consider our options for a new stadium, should economic conditions improve."

The Blues will be hoping to upgrade their stadium at some point in the future, however that is not going to happen with the current plans.
