Chelsea recruitment duo flout lockdown guidelines to seal youth signings

Chelsea have reminded two members of the club's recruitment staff of their social distancing responsibilities after they broke lockdown rules to complete the signing of at least two eight-year-old players at the weekend.

Saturday was the first day that children who will be eligible for under-9 football next season are able to be registered to new clubs.

The members of Blues staff had planned to visit those they were looking to sign in the local area with a physical copy of their contracts and deliver them from a responsible distance.

However, photos from a parent showed that guidelines were not strictly followed and Chelsea have had to act to ensure staff follow the rules.

In March, Chelsea had to remind their playing staff to follow self-isolation guidelines after Mason Mount was spotted playing football with close friend and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice at a football centre near Barnet after team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi had tested positive for Covid-19.
