Chelsea receive Kai Havertz transfer update as Frank Lampard faces FA Cup selection dilemma

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Saturday, August 1.

Lampard explains the 'difficult' Chelsea selection

Frank Lampard believes he has some difficult decisions ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup final with Arsenal, no more so than the goalkeeper situation.

While Kepa Arrizabalaga has been the number one for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign, the Blues boss dropped the Spaniard for the final game of the Premier League season.

Willy Caballero came into the side and kept a clean sheet against Wolverhampton Wanderers, securing Chelsea's place in next year's Champions League, and Lampard admits he has some important decisions for the crunch match, including the goalkeeper role.

Leverkusen chief sends clear Havertz message

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has revealed the club are yet to receive an official offer for Kai Havertz.

Chelsea are hopeful of making the talented midfielder their third official signing of 2020 following on from deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

Speaking on the situation, Rolfes confirmed the club had not yet received a bid from Chelsea.

He told Sky German: “So far we have no offer. We know about the interest of clubs, but there is no official offer.

“We have said several times that we will end the season with our entire squad. And that includes Kai. That goes without saying for us.”

Gimenez interest

Chelsea are considering making a move for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez, ESPN states.

The Blues are expected to shift their focus towards defensive reinforcements when a deal for Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz is tied up.

Negotiating a deal will be difficult though as he has three years remaining on his contract in the Spanish capital and has a whopping release clause of £108.4million.
