Chelsea qualify for Champions League despite Aston Villa defeat - thanks to Tottenham

Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League by the skin of their teeth as they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa at Villa Park but results elsewhere saw Thomas Tuchel's side secure a fourth-place finish.

Tottenham's 4-2 win at Leicester City saw the Blues cling on to fourth place with Foxes collapsing once again in the latter stages of the season as they had to settle for a place in the Europa League, finishing fifth.

Gareth Bale scored a late double at Leicester to secure Chelsea's spot in the competition for next season and meaning they wouldn't have to rely on beating Man City to secure a place at the top table in Europe next season.

It completes a remarkable turnaround for Thomas Tuchel, who took over with Chelsea in ninth place and has led them to a top four finish in five months.

It is not the way he would have liked to have done it as the Blues also finished the game with ten men thanks to Cesar Azpilicueta's red card.

The game itself was a poor one from the Blues perspective as not a lot went right for them but they were indebted to their bitter rivals for doing them a huge favour at the King Power.
