Chelsea putting 'finishing touches' on Timo Werner transfer ahead of £53m move

Chelsea are reportedly negotiating the final details of Timo Werner's seemingly inevitable transfer from RB Leipzig.

Despite it initially appearing as though Liverpool were the hot favourites for the signature of the German striker, the Reds have balked at his £53m release clause, with Leipzig not willing to sell the player for anything less.

As a result Chelsea have swooped to take advantage, and it appears the confirmation of the move to Stamford Bridge is just a matter of time.

According to The Telegraph both clubs are now in advanced talks about how the deal will be structured, and are confident that there will be no further hold-ups.

Werner has become one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe following his stunning displays in the Bundesliga this season, in which he has scored 25 goals.

And he will join Ajax's Hakim Ziyech in joining Chelsea this summer after the Blues agreed a deal to sign the attacking midfielder in February.

It appears unlikely they will stop there either, with their manager Frank Lampard keen for further signings ahead of next season.

He has apparently identified Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell as a target, while they could raid Germany again for Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz, although the asking price of £90m may prove to be too steep.

Lampard's side return to Premier League action next week with a trip to Aston Villa on June 21 as they try to seal a Champions League qualification spot.

They currently sit three points above fifth place Manchester United, and are also being chased by the likes of Sheffield United, Wolves and Tottenham.

They face three tough-looking games after Villa, with a home game against Manchester City followed by trips to Leicester and London rivals with West Ham.
