Chelsea power rankings: Luiz leads the way as Zouma gives Lampard a huge selection dilemma

Frank Lampard has a tough choice to make next season at Chelsea when it comes down to his centre-backs.

Maurizio Sarri always opted for a pairing of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger, yet the new head coach may decide to go with a different partnership for the new season.

Seeing Gary Cahill depart following the end of his contract in west London, the Blues have Kurt Zouma back at the club following his impressive loan spell at Everton last campaign.

Chelsea still have three more pre-season friendlies before the big kick-off against Manchester United and that still gives the players time to catch Lampard's eye.

However, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Antonio Rudiger back in action after he underwent knee surgery in April.

Ahead of the start of the new season proper, here are how Lampard's options stack up at present. The power rankings as they stand for the players pitching to play a part at centre-back for Chelsea are below, in ascending order.

Most impressive Chelsea stars vs Barcelona

Chelsea power rankings: Centre-backs

Fikayo Tomori

Age: 21

Lampard needs to make a decision over Tomori's future for the 2019/20 season very soon after such an impressive year on loan at Derby.

As opportunities in the first team will be few and far between, he may feel it's best to send him out on loan again so he can gain even more experience.

Power ranking: 5th - Only played 45 minutes out in Japan and a loan move may turn out to be the best option for all concerned.

Andreas Christensen

Age: 23

Frustrating year for the Dane last season and he faces a real fight to become a regular under Lampard.

Done well in pre-season so far but now has Zouma to contend with for a spot in the team.

Power ranking: 4th - Could be a repeat of the 2018/19 season for the Dane once again.

Kurt Zouma

Age: 24

Extremely impressive following his return from Everton and it appears he has a big part to play under the new head coach.

Lampard has stated that he wants to keep the player in west London and he will fancy his chances of starting against Manchester United on the opening weekend given Rudiger's injury.

Power ranking: 3rd - Will play a big part for the team over the campaign after excelling during his time on Merseyside.

Antonio Rudiger

Age: 26

Not featured in pre-season so far as he looks to get back to full fitness after going under the knife at the end of last season.

Will be confident of getting back into the team as soon as he returns following an outstanding 2018/19 campaign.

Power ranking: 2nd - Will want a quick return from injury so he can impress Lampard given the competition at the back.

David Luiz

Age: 32

Looks guaranteed to keep his place in the team after playing the most amount of minutes on the tour of Japan out of all the defenders.

Lampard knows what he's all about after playing alongside him at Chelsea and he will be hoping he can continue his good form from last season.

Power ranking: 1st - Lampard's first choice at centre-back as things stand at present.
