Chelsea player ratings vs Sheffield United: Hakim Ziyech sparkles as Frank Lampard’s most creative force

Chelsea recovered from going a goal down early on against Sheffield United as Frank Lampard’s Blues rallied to seal a 4-1 comeback win at Stamford Bridge.

James Robson delivers his verdict on how Chelsea’s players performed…

Edouardy Mendy 6

Had a look of genuine shock as Chelsea fell behind. Not surprising, really. Goals against him are the rarest of things. Nothing he could do about it.

Reece James 6

Such a threat with his forward runs. Already looks like one of the most dangerous full-backs in the Premier League and this was another game full of ambition.

Kurt Zouma 6

In control and largely untroubled after McGoldrick’s opening goal. Seemed to enjoy the physical battle with McGoldrick and stuck tight to him.

Thiago Silva 7

A picture of calmness. Loves to get on the ball and start attacks from the back – always showing himself as an option to the midfield. Wonderful run and header to open his scoring account.

Ben Chilwell 7

Some shaky moments early on defensively, but a real threat going forward – and was rewarded with his goal in the first half. Also denied a second by Rasmdale’s impressive save shortly after.

Mateo Kovacic 8

His willingness to break the lines and burst into the box caused Sheffield United problems. His charge forward is what led to Abraham’s equaliser in the first half.

N’Golo Kante 7

Lampard is increasingly playing him in his best role as the most withdrawn of a midfield three. There is no one better at doing what he does in the Premier League.

Mason Mount 6

Energetic and hard-working, rather than being at his creative best. More evidence of the differing sides to his game.

Hakim Ziyech 9

Surely a must for Fantasy Football managers. Established himself as Chelsea’s most creative force.

Set up Kovacic in the build-up to Abraham’s equaliser and then provided the crosses for Chilwell and Silva to score.

PA

 Tammy Abraham 7

Leading the line for the third game in a row and scored for the second time in succession.

Continuing to prove himself a valuable option for Lampard.

Timo Werner 7

Has shown his versatility in recent weeks and has perhaps looked more effective in a wider role. So unlucky not to score when hitting the bar and should have done better when one-on-one in the second half – but eventually got his goal.

Substitutes

Jorginho (Kovacic 71’) 6

His arrival coincided with Chelsea putting the game to bed.

Olivier Giroud (Werner 87’) N/A

Subs not used: Rudiger, Caballero, Hudson-Odoi, Azpilicueta, Emerson Palmieri
