Chelsea player ratings vs Porto: Jorginho and Kante good as Blues secure semi final spot

Edouard Mendy

Bad error early on but was bailed out by Jorginho. One save from Teremi in the second half but that was it. Could do absolutely nothing about Taremi's goal. 6

Reece James

Bombed forward at will. But his bread and butter, defending, he did very little wrong all game. Another composed performance. 6

Cesar Azpiliceuta

Very comfortable. Some meaty challenges in the second half. 6

Antonio Rudiger

Started nervously and botched a couple of clearing headers that went more up than away and his passing was very iffy as Porto targeted him and Chilwell. Better in the second period, dealt well with Marega and won plenty of headers. 6

Thiago Silva

Wasn’t really tested and brought a calmness to the Blues backline as Porto threw the kitchen sink at their “hosts” in the first half. Barely had to get out of third gear all game. 6

Ben Chilwell

Had his hands full with the lively Jesus Corona and was lucky not to be punished by the Mexican after mis-judging a pass over his head. Comfortable after the break, Porto had little ideas to get past him. 6

Jorginho

Vital interception on ten minutes to block Corona's shot following Mendy’s error and was incredibly aggressive in the face of Porto, superb in the first half. Aside from one wayward pass after the break, he was probably Chelsea’s best player on the night. 7

N’Golo Kante

Superb run created a half chance for James who blasted wide. He was his usual self and certainly didn’t look half fit. Relentless running. Managed to last the whole 90 minutes as well which surprised everyone. 7

Mason Mount

Played on the left of the front three to start with which was an interesting call from Tuchel. Plenty of running but very little of the ball in the opening 45 minutes. Much the same after the break, but it didn’t really matter in the end. 6

Christian Pulisic

A frustrating first half in which he didn’t see a lot of the ball, switched wings midway through the half to try and get involved. Missed the best chance of the game on 55 minutes. Hacked around all night by Porto. 6

Kai Havertz

Starved of service in the opening half, playing much further forward as a traditional number nine. Very reserved. 6

Substitutes

Hakim Ziyech (for Mount, 86') No rating

Olivier Giroud (for Havertz, 90') No rating
