Chelsea player ratings vs Man City - Werner poor, Kante struggles, Hudson-Odoi good

Edouard Mendy

Beaten at his near post for both first half goals. Fine stop in the second half from Dias’ header prevented further embarrassment. 5

Cesar AzpIlicueta

Making his 400th appearance for the club. Didn’t get tight enough to De Bruyne for City’s second and was battered all afternoon. Not helped by the lack of defensive duties of Ziyech. Woefully exposed throughout. 5

Thiago Silva

Couldn’t cope with the vivacious City in the first half despite how much he was shouting a Zouma, the Brazilian was at fault as much as anyone. Better after the break but far from his best. 6

Kurt Zouma

Should have been punished for losing De Bruyne but the Belgian missed a golden chance. Was punished by Foden and Gundogan, leaving Silva incredulous. Looked jumpy and nervy throughout. 5

Ben Chilwell

Got forward at will and hounded Joao Cancelo for the first ten minutes of the game but was soon pushed back by the incessant pressing of City. Barely ventured forward after the break as he was wary of City’s counter and was solid enough defensively. Wise. 6

N’Golo Kante

Horrendous pass gave the ball away in the lead up to City’s third in 35 minutes. Picked up a booking in the second half and will be suspended for Fulham. Subbed off after 63 minutes with Lampard fearful a second booking was in the offing. 4

Mateo Kovacic

Pedestrian. Had a shot on goal after the break but was comprehensively dominated by City’s midfield. Booked for a lunge on De Bruyne. 4

Mason Mount

Looked to make things happen but never had any time on the ball. One inviting cross after the break wasn’t gambled on by his teammates. Did alright and was the hosts’ best player on the day. 7

Christian Pulisic

Arguably the liveliest of Chelsea’s front three but took the wrong option too many times. His quick feet gets him into excellent positions but he didn’t make the most of them. 6

Hakim Ziyech

Bright start but faded into near anonymity. The minutes under his belt will have done him good but his impact was next to nothing. Offered no help for Azpilicueta. 5

Timo Werner

Frustrating in the first half as despite having two up with him, he looked incredibly isolated but also kept running down blind alleys. Also dropped far too deep to get the ball considering he was supposed to be a focal point for the attack. 5

Subs

Billy Gilmour (for Kante, 63’)

Busy in the middle of the park. 6

Callum Hudson-Odoi (for Ziyech, 63’)

Looked lively, some threatening runs and got a late consolation goal to boot. Arguably should have started ahead of Ziyech. 7

Kai Havertz (for Kovacic, 77’)

Brought on at 3-0 down and not really any time to make an impact. N/A
