Chelsea player ratings vs Man City as Lewis Hall shines, Azpilicueta poor, Wesley Fofana error

Kepa Arrizabalaga – There's not too much he could've done with Alvarez's goal. Actually had quite a quiet first-half, which might've been unexpected. 6.

Cesar Azpilicueta – Got rinsed by Cole Palmer early on. He couldn't keep up with the City youngster in one-on-one situations. A tough afternoon for the Spaniard. 4.

Wesley Fofana – Really poor for the first goal. Gave it away too sloppily and City made him pay with a fine finish from Julian Alvarez. 5.

Thiago Silva – Some crucial headers and interceptions. Perhaps a bit slow to get to Alvarez for his goal. 6.

Trevoh Chalobah – Back at centre-back after two games as a right-back. Looked solid enough. 6.

Lewis Hall – Defended really well. Put some superb crosses into the box, especially for Gallagher's header which hit the post. Attacked well in the second period, with a couple of decent shots from the left side. Very strong performance. 7.

Conor Gallagher – Should probably score in the first-half when he hits the post. Probably looked one of Chelsea's more dangerous players when attacking. 6.

Enzo Fernandez – Played some brilliant clipped balls. Delivered a delightful pass to Sterling in the first-half. Looked composed on the ball. 6.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – Some positive and typically powerful runs allowed Chelsea a much-needed outlet at times. Perhaps why he was chosen in the XI, as well as the lack of options in midfield. 6.

Kai Havertz – Linked a few attacks together well with a lay-off. However, the German didn't have the impact he would have hoped for in Manchester. 5.

Raheem Sterling – Perhaps should have done better in his one-v-one situation in the first-half but was somewhat off balance and on his weaker foot. He looked a threat but didn't have the desired impact, unfortunately. 6.

Substitutes

Mykhailo Mudryk – Didn't do too much. Had a half-chance on 75 minutes but it didn't come to anything, and blazed over late on.

Noni Madueke – Involved straight away to set up a chance for Havertz. Looked a threat.

Carney Chukwuemeka – Good to finally see him get some minutes.

Kalidou Koulibaly – Came on for the final 10 minutes or so after over a month out with injury.

Christian Pulisic – Came on too late to have much of an impact.
