Chelsea player ratings vs Leeds: Edouard Mendy shines but Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic struggle

Chelsea were off key on Saturday as Leeds earned a deserved point at Elland Road, dealing a blow to the Blues’ top-four hopes in the process.

Here’s how James Robson rated those on show...

Edouard Mendy 8

Brilliant saves denied Roberts and Raphinha in each half. The busiest he’s been in a long time – but responded impressively.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

In an orthodox right-back role he was stretched early on, but got control of his side as the game went on.

Andreas Christensen 7

Like the rest of Chelsea’s defence, he looked uncertain to begin with as Leeds created openings. Composed use of the ball when starting moves from the back.

Antonio Rudiger 7

Wonderful header denied Bamford a certain goal. Also managed to keep Raphinha relatively quiet once Chelsea got control defensively.

Ben Chilwell 7

A performance full of attacking threat. Found himself in dangerous positions with his bursting runs.

N’Golo Kante 7

Powerfully carried the ball forward and allowed Chelsea to command possession in midfield. Really good defensively at set pieces.

Jorginho 6

Important in settling Chelsea defensively when dropping back to fill gaps that were there in the opening stages and provide an outlet for the defenders.

Mason Mount 6

Not at his most influential, but still made things happen with his energy and work rate. Final ball let him down.

Hakim Ziyech 5

Still trying to find his form. Final ball was disappointing and couldn’t take advantage with the dead ball either.

Kai Havertz 7

After his false No9 role against Everton, this was more of an orthodox centre forward deployment and his movement caused Leeds lots of problems. Finishing let him down.

Christian Pulisic 5

Had his moments in his first league start under Tuchel. But played out of position on the right and the subject of a couple of ear-bashings from his manager. Unlikely he did enough to keep his place.

Substitutes

Reece James (Pulisic, 68’) 5

Came on to give Chelsea another attacking option, but crucial block on Llorente cut out a dangerous chance.

Timo Werner (Ziyech, 68’) 4

Was supposed to give Chelsea more cutting edge, but had little impact from the bench.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (Mount, 79’) 5

Added a bit more varietly to Chelsea’s attack.
