Chelsea player ratings vs Club America: Mason Mount rescues Blues after Reece James own goal

Chelsea kicked off their pre-season tour with a win thanks to Mason Mount's stunning 25-yard strike over Mexican giants Club America.

Timo Werner had opened the scoring at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, but Reece James's mix-up with third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli levelled the scores.

In front of a reported 47,000 supporters, in the sparsely populated Nevada arena, Thomas Tuchel played two different XIss across the first and second halves.

Nizaar Kinsella was at Allegiant Stadium to rate the Blues players...

First half XI

Kepa - 6

Kepa Arrizabalaga didn't have to make a save in his 45 minute display. An assured presence when dealing with crosses.

Chalobah - 6

Made one good recovery run to deny a possible counter attack early on but most of his defending was front-footed and his ability with the ball allowed Chelsea to keep possession. He wasn't especially tested so it didn't give him much chance to shine.

Thiago Silva - 7

Like so much of last season, the 37-year-old was the standout performer in the back line. He was aggressive in his defensive actions but without ever over-exerting himself.

Sarr - 6

Didn't especially shine over his short period on the pitch but kept possession well and didn't make any mistakes. An understated appearance overall.

Hudson-Odoi - 7

It felt like the explosiveness that defined his burst onto the scene was back after a long spell out injured. The 21-year-old beat his man on several occasions but wasn't quite able to deliver a decisive moment. Still, it felt like a promise of more to come.

Barkley - 6

In an awkward number six role out of necessity, Barkley did his job for the team. Having struggled to break down the back line in the first half, the midfielder kept being tempted to push on out of position to create a moment which never came. His impressive free-kick cross did allow Thiago Silva to produce the first shot on target, though.

Gallagher - 7

Conor Gallagher outshone Barkley in similar roles with aggressive defensive actions and the best pass of the game, allowing Kai Havertz in behind the defence but he skied the shot. Unfortunately, he was booked and gave the ball away a few times. Overall, though, he looked ready to play for Chelsea next season.

Chilwell - 6

It was a performance way below the level we are used to from Ben Chilwell. However, it is to be expected due to it being his first proper match in eight months after a serious knee injury. Jurgen Damm on America's right wing caused him problems and his passing often went astray.

Ziyech - 6

Hakim Ziyech produced his usual moments with tricks and flicks. There were a few great crosses but he failed to really impose himself on the match.

Havertz - 5

With Romelu Lukaku gone, the prominence of Havertz will rise. He will be the only big number nine in the squad next season but he fluffed the biggest chance of the half. There were a few good touches but that moment defined his display.

Kenedy - 7

A surprise package of the first half. Kenedy looked physically ready for the challenge of playing at wing-back. He was aggressive, energetic and entertained with a few skills. In a drab first half, he surprisingly shone above many of his more prominent peers.

Second half XI

Bettinelli - 5

Marcus Bettinelli was involved in the calamitous error for the goal when Reece James's pass found the back of his own net. Every time he touched the ball, the third-choice goalkeeper was jeered by fans behind the goal, though, the error was more James's fault. Perhaps a higher-level goalkeeper could have saved his teammate the ignominy though.

Azpilicueta - 6

An unremarkable display with Barcelona lurking in the background trying to sign the Blues captain.

Ampadu - 6

Ethan Ampadu found himself at the base of a defensive three in the 'Thiago Silva' role. In difficult boots to fill, he was assured and recycled possession well.

Emerson - 7

An impressive recovery run while playing out of position saved Chelsea from possible defeat in the 78th minute. He also set up a chance for Christian Pulisic with a deep cross from his centre-back position. The defender almost scored with an edge-of-the-box volley in the 87th minute. Emerson is one of the players who has a chance to leave the loan group and join the first-team squad next season.

Alonso - 6

A very quiet performance from the attacking wing-back. He didn't do much wrong but needed to be saved by his partner Emerson on a few occasions.

James - 5

Although some might prefer to blame Bettinelli, it felt like it was more the wing-back's fault for playing it so firmly back without looking. He did, however, set up Timo Werner's goal.

Mount - 8

Mason Mount really was 'Money Mase' in Vegas. He hit the jackpot by sitting down a defender, before shifting the ball and hitting it firmly in from 25 yards. Otherwise, he did his job competently while out of position in a number six role.

Jorginho - 7

Unusually found himself in a shooting position in the 48th minute through a clever midfield run, but saw his shot saved by Oscar Jimenez. He was the one who finally broke down the Mexican's deep back line with a clipped ball, allowing Timo Werner to score via Reece James's cross.

Pulisic - 7

Christian Pulisic missed a half chance from Emerson's cross, but he did brilliantly create several chances that weren't taken. We should have been talking about a sensational

Batshuayi - 5

The Belgian produced a lovely turn and shot in the 54th minute which went just wide. A big outsider to impress Tuchel and make his squad, the poacher then missed two huge chances. He didn't look his usual self in front of goal. For all his flaws in the build-up, he has always scored in a Blues shirt.

Werner - 7

Werner produced his usual brand of work rate and high energy in a more open second half. His movement was good when he was found by Reece James cross. It took him two attempts but he scored the opener.
