Chelsea player ratings vs Bournemouth: Alejandro Garnacho the bright spark and Cole Palmer decent on return

Chelsea dropped more points in the Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth.

They thought they were behind as early as the third minute at the Vitality Stadium, but Antoine Semenyo’s opener was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

Chelsea were not convincing on the day but deserved their point and came close when an Alejandro Garnacho header hit the post.

A draw provided something of a response from Wednesday’s surprise defeat at Leeds.

Standard Sport’s Dom Smith was at the Vitality Stadium to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…

Robert Sanchez 6

Made one very good save from Semenyo in the second half. A clean sheet will be good for confidence.

Malo Gusto 6

Defensively disciplined at right-back, without offering much going forward.

Wesley Fofana 6

Passed well and was good on the ball but found aerial battles more challenging up against the Cherries’ front line.

Trevoh Chalobah 6

Good in the air and selected the right pass. Important interceptions added to his performance.

Marc Cucurella 6

Tenacious as ever but not as involved as he tends to be for the Blues.

Reece James 7

Some crunching challenges in midfield stopped Bournemouth at source. But on the ball not as dangerous as he can be.

Enzo Fernandez 6

A fine showing without being spectacular. Had one pop-shot which Djordje Petrovic gathered.

Pedro Neto 6

All-action again on the right wing for Chelsea, but didn’t have any stand-out moments.

Cole Palmer 6

Made a decent impact on his first start since September but was not able to inspire Chelsea to victory while on the pitch. Brought off on 58 minutes to manage his game time.

Alejandro Garnacho 7

Probably Chelsea’s standout performer in a difficult game. Hit the post with a header and nearly scored again when he fired just wide.

Liam Delap 5

Got away from the Bournemouth back-line on a couple of occasions before being taken off after half an hour with an injured shoulders.

Subs:

Marc Guiu (Delap, 32’) 7

Put himself about well and held the ball up responsibly. Offers something different up front when he’s used, and does it reliably.

Joao Pedro (Palmer, 58’) 5

Operated in the No10 role behind Guiu when he came on for Palmer but was very quiet in the 32 minutes he played, except for one dangerous low cross.

Estevao Willian (Garnacho, 77’) N/A

Not used: Jorgensen, Badiashile, Gittens, Santos, Hato, Acheampong
