Chelsea player ratings vs Arsenal: Reece James struggles as Timo Werner subbed off at the break

Edouard Mendy Tricked by Alex Lacazette from the penalty spot and unable to keep Granit Xhaka's free kick out. Bukayo Saka's third was a freak that he could do little about. Also spilled a Martinelli shot at 3-0. 4

Reece James Poor. Back in the team despite not being 100% recovered from a knee injury and his defending to allow Kieran Tierney in for the penalty was shocking. It was very, very soft as the Arsenal player went down so easily but he should not have gotten goal side either. 4

Thiago Silva Ineffective. Booked for putting a hand in Lacazette's face nearing latter stages and had a good chance to make it 3-2 in final minute of normal time only to miss the target. 5

Kurt Zouma A threat from attacking set pieces, heading a Mount corner over in the 22nd minute but looked a yard off the pace when Arsenal attacked. 5

Ben Chilwell Clearly not 100% fit but that he started instead of Emerson or even Marcos Alonso shows how little confidence Lampard must have in the deputies. 5

Mateo Kovacic Mercilessly chopped down by Pablo Mari as he countered down the right early on and near anonymous afterwards. Hooked for the second occasion at half-time in a dismal away performance this season. 4

N'Golo Kante Overrun in first half, not much impact in more advanced role upon Jorginh's introduction. Replaced by Kai Havertz for final stages. 5

Mason Mount Hit a post with a long-range free kick early on an looked most lively of Chelsea's players in attack.

Timo Werner Had a coupld of half-chances but rightly hooked at the break. He needs a reset. 4

Tammy Abraham Ineffective for 85 minutes before converting a Callum Hudson-Odoi cross from five yards to make it 3-1 with Chelsea's first attempt on target. Expect Olivier Giroud to start against Villa on Monday evening. 5

Christian Pulisic Quiet. Still looks short of the sharpness he displayed late last season and didn't . 5

Substitutes

Jorginho (for Kovacic, h-t) Did little to pull Chelsea out of their malaise and his late penalty was far too tame. 5

Callum Hudson-Odoi (for Werner, h-t) More lively than Werner but not much tangible impact until that late cross for Abraham. Best of a bad bunch. 6

Kai Havertz (for Kante, 74) n/a

Not used: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cesar Azpilicueta, Toni Rudiger, Emerson Palmieri, Billy Gilmour, Olivier Giroud.
