Chelsea player ratings vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Kante & Loftus-Cheek superb, Giroud poor in draw

Chelsea are very much in the driving seat when it comes to a place in the Europa League final.

That away goal scored in the first-half could prove to be crucial.

A goalless draw at Stamford Bridge next week will mean the Blues get the chance to emulate the class of 2013 and guarantee a return to the Champions League regardless of where they finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea news: Forward's transfer plans revealed as Maurizio Sarri makes Eden Hazard claim

It was a good result for the west London outfit, but how did we rate the players?

Find out below...

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Couldn't do too much for the goal, although some might argue that he could have got across a little bit quicker to try to stop it.

Apart from that he was given very little to do throughout the encounter, taking a couple of crosses well. 5

Emerson

Out of position for the goal which meant that David Luiz was dragged a little wide, and his productivity in the final third in the first half was not great either.

That continued in the second half as well, although he got more involved in the forward play, but the final ball wasn't there enough. 5

David Luiz

Wider on the pitch for the goal than he should have been, not closing Luka Jovic down quick enough as he went to head the ball. Passed the ball one of the most times, but not the usual accuracy with the long ones.

Chelsea looked a lot more solid in the second half in defence, however from set pieces they looked vulnerable again. Luiz was a big threat in the attacking box for set pieces, though. 5

Chelsea fans will love what Glenn Hoddle has said about the Blues

Andreas Christensen

Looked a bit all over the place in the first half, with Eintracht exploiting his side and then the Dane getting caught out for the opening goal of the game as well.

However, he really stepped up in the second 45 minutes, with his positioning a lot better and taking command of the situation more. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta

In the first half he was run a little ragged again with the Frankfurt winger enjoying some good play. However, he tucked in well at times and got himself in better positions.

Going forward he was quite disappointing, with a couple of crosses that hit the front man and not being able to hit the right areas. 6

Jorginho

Quality was poor in the first half as long passes went well astray and even the simpler things were a bit of a struggle from the midfielder.

However, a lot better in the second half, really getting into better defensive positions and also controlling the tempo of the match better. Under some pressure at the end of the game, though. 6

N'Golo Kante

Just everywhere on the pitch for the Blues. Running off the midfield and looking to get behind, but still doing his defensive duties at the same time.

Especially at the end of the match when his recovery pace stopped a certain Eintracht goal. He really put in a superb shift. 8

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Added a real dynamism to the Chelsea midfield and gave the Frankfurt midfield some real problems. Did really well for the Pedro goal as well to win the ball back in the box.

However, sometimes the quality in the final third wasn't quite there which was the frustration. The driving runs are brilliant and the final ball or shot let him down a little. 8

Willian

His quality in the final third just wasn't there at times, especially from crosses. Got into some really good positions as well and trying to make things happen.

However, it just wasn't really his night and it was a bit of a frustrating one for the Blues winger. 5

Fans left stunned by bizarre BT Sport error during Eintracht Frankfurt vs Chelsea

Pedro

Worked hard as usual and had a couple of nice touches in and around the box. A really good finish in the first half that will likely be a big away goal in this tie.

Faded a bit in the second half. Nice link with Loftus-Cheek at one point, but not enough threat in much of the second half. 7

Olivier Giroud

The top scorer in the competition but a night where he really struggled to make much of an impact for the whole game. His build-up play wasn't as good as usual.

He tried to make chances for himself, however he couldn't really muster any opening and it was a difficult night for him. 4

Substitutes

Eden Hazard (on for Willian 61')

Struggled to make much of an impact in the match when he came on. Eintracht really looked after him closely. 5

Mateo Kovacic (on for Loftus-Cheek 82')

First act was to lose the ball. Didn't do much after that. 5
