Chelsea player ratings: Kai Havertz dismal at Everton as Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy at fault

Edouard Mendy

Took a knock early on after colliding with Reece James and was then guilty of giving away a penalty after charging out of his goal and bringing down Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box. However, atoned for his error by saving well from Richarlison after a quick break. Quiet after that with Everton failing to test him. 5

Reece James

Twice went close to an equaliser in quick succession after seeing his free-kick palmed away by Jordan Pickford before striking the post from the resulting corner. Kept working hard over the course of the game and put in some good crosses. Chelsea's best player on an off day for the team. 8

Chelsea FFOTY 2020

Kurt Zouma

Played a couple of good long balls over the top early on and later saw his effort from point-blank range blocked by former teammate Pickford. Remained strong at the back up against the strength of Calvert-Lewin. 6

Thiago Silva

Failed to deal with the ball that culminated in Gylfi Sigurdsson scoring from the spot as Calvert-Lewin bullied him in the air. A rare error after such a bright start to life at the club. 5

Ben Chilwell

Given a tough task with Alex Iwobi making a number of good runs down the wing early on and didn't have many chances to attack as he usually does. Fortunate to get away with one just past the hour mark as he bundled over Calvert-Lewin in the box only for it to be ruled out for offside by VAR. Far from his best after some very good performances since his summer move. 5

N'Golo Kante

Put himself about as ever as he buzzed around and tried to stop any Everton attacks through the middle. 6

Mateo Kovacic

Steady in midfield and had a job on his hands trying to deal with Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. 6

Mason Mount

Quiet in the first half but went so close to an equaliser just after the break with his lofted effort a matter of inches over the crossbar. Then went even closer in the final 10 minutes as his free-kick struck the base of the post. Couldn't make the crucial difference in the final third. 6

Kai Havertz

Started on the right of a front three but wasn't long before he found himself on the left as he swapped with Timo Werner. Struggled out wide and was sloppy in possession at times when he did have the ball. Struggling to recapture his form and needs to find it quickly. 4

Timo Werner

Lifted a shot over the crossbar in the first half following a lovely ball across the face of goal. Put in the work but much didn't come off for him at Goodison Park. 6

Olivier Giroud

No chances on goal in the first half as the Everton defence made life very difficult for him and it was more of the same after the break. Tried his best to link up with his teammates but nothing really came off for the Frenchman. 6

Substitutes

Tammy Abraham (Kai Havertz, 68)

On for the final 20 minutes but didn't have the impact he perhaps desired. 5

Billy Gilmour (Mateo Kovacic, 82)

Brought on for the final eight minutes. N/A
