Chelsea player ratings in FA Cup Final: Timo Werner fluffs his lines again in blunt Blues attack

Youri Tielemans’ thunderbolt strike sealed Leicester’s maiden FA Cup triumph with a gritty 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley.

The Belgium midfielder rifled an unstoppable effort into the top corner from 25 yards, as Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes put another genuine stamp on years of recent quality.

Chelsea player ratings

Kepa Arrizabalaga 6

Could do nothing about Tielemas’ strike. Showed good anticipation at other times.

Cesar Azpilicueta 5

Played a wingback, he frequently found himself in dangerous positions. Crossing let him down.

Thiago Silva 7

Decisive throughball played in Mount for a chance and a cross later was better than most of the service provided by anyone else in blue.

Toni Rudiger 6

A couple of wayward passes early on put Chelsea under pressure. Did the crowd make him nervous? Did keep Iheanacho quiet.

Reece James 7

Deployed on the right of a back three – he showed strength and speed to hold off Vardy, but at fault when losing the ball in the build-up to Tielemans’ goal.

N’Golo Kante 7

His drive and energy did more than most to unsettle Leicester’s well-organised rear-guard.

Jorginho 6

Kept Leicester running towards their own goal with his forward passing. Players in front of him did not do enough after that.

Marcos Alonso 5

Chosen for his aerial presence and did test Schmeichel with one header, but little else.

Hakim Ziyech 5

Very lively in the first half without finding the decision final ball. Very quiet after the break.

Mason Mount 6

A threat when picking up the ball in good positions and driving in to the box, but one of his less effective days. Still nearly came up with an equaliser, but for a wonder save by Schmeichel.

Timo Werner 4

His pace had Leicester on the back foot, but his decision-making and finishing repeatedly let him down.

Substitutes

Chrisitan Pulisic (Ziyech, 68’) 5

Ran at Leicester without opening them up.

Ben Chilwell (Alonso, 68’) 7

Had a big impact. Thought he’d forced a last-minute equaliser only for VAR to rule it out. Also forced a save from Schmeichel with a header

Kai Havertz (Jorginho, 76’) 5

Never looked finding a breakthrough.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (Azpilicueta, 76’) 5

Another player to run at Leicester without hurting them.

Olivier Giroud (Werner 82’) 4

Added presence, but not a lot else.
