Chelsea player ratings: Cesar Azpilicueta superb as Olivier Giroud earns win over Norwich

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Had absolutely nothing to do in the first half, with Norwich not testing him at all and not really having to deal with crosses or set-pieces.

Very similar in the second half as well. The most vocal player on the Chelsea team, though. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta

Looked the most dangerous Blues player at times on the right, with Norwich giving him space and he got into good positions to put in crosses.

An excellent display down the right. Battled really hard defensively and always an outlet. Looked really up for it throughout. 8

Kurt Zouma

Defensively had very little to do in the first half, but his positioning was good. On the ball, just a bit slow, though, and didn't get the ball into the midfield and forwards quick enough.

The Blues lost control a little in the second half at times, however he was still pretty solid defensively. 6

Antonio Rudiger

Very similar to Zouma defensively in the first half, with no issues at the back. However, a bit sloppy in possession. Played the crossfield ball a lot, but passes often went astray.

Better on the ball in the second half, finding Alonso with some nice passes. Made one very important tackle in the second half to see out a Norwich threat. 6

Marcos Alonso

Saw a lot of the ball in the first half, with a switch of play coming to him often. Biggest contribution was the pass to Pulisic leading to the opening goal.

Had so much space in the second half and could have made a lot more of it. However, some poor crosses and not really dangerous enough at all. 5

Mateo Kovacic

Like the rest of the midfield, just a bit slow in possession and didn't really incise enough to disrupt Norwich and cut through them.

However, in the second half he got into gear a bit more. Some excellent runs from the heart of midfield to move Chelsea forward a bit more. 6

Jorginho

Too much of the ball going from just side-to-side, only once getting the ball over the top to Giroud in the early running of the match.

Got overrun a couple of times in midfield and really just too slow on the ball. Very vocal on the pitch, but not a great amount of quality. 4

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

A bit slow in possession, not really adding enough to cut through Norwich. A couple of really nice turns, though and showed his strength well.

Similar in the second half. Grew into the game a bit, but not much incision from him. 5

Willian

Really sloppy in the early proceedings, with his corners hitting the front men and not being able to penetrate with passes. Frustrated for much of the half.

Tried to make things happen, but cut a really frustrated figure throughout the game. Great defensive work, though, but on the ball disappointing. 5

Olivier Giroud

Didn't have his shooting boots on in the first half, having the best of the half-chances for the Blues. One his softly shot at Tim Krul, with the next being horribly wide. However, with his head was a different story with the opening goal.

In the second half he did some excellent play to hold the ball up. Has a nice rapport with Pulisic, and almost got himself an assist. 7

Christian Pulisic

Had very little space to run at and was less effective in the early running of the game. But he managed to get into the match with an excellent turn a strike which was tipped on to the bar. Then a lovely cross for the Giroud opener.

Tried a bit too much at times, but always looking to be positive on the ball. Just overran it a couple of times and gave away a few fouls. 7

Substitutes

Reece James (on for Alonso 80')

A couple of superb crosses that an attacker couldn't get on. 5

Ross Barkley (on for Loftus-Cheek 66')

Some nice touches from the Englishman and moved the ball well. 6

Callum Hudson-Odoi (on for Pulisic 80')

A couple of nice runs to help spread the play. 6

Tammy Abraham (on for Giroud 85')

Didn't really impact the game. 5
