Chelsea player ratings as Michy Batshuayi snatches late winner at Ajax

Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to strike a dramatic late winner as Chelsea beat Ajax 1-0 in Amsterdam.

The Blues rode their luck at times with Quincy Promes having a goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check and Edson Alvarez hitting the post for the hosts.

But Batshuayi, who missed a guilt-edged chance earlier in the second half, popped up to strike five minutes from time and give Frank Lampard's side a crucial win.

The result moved the Blues level with last year's semi-finalists at the top of Group H on six points from three games and in a strong position to reach the knockout stages.

Here's how the Chelsea players rated in the Dutch capital.

Chelsea ratings

Kepa Arrizabalaga 6

Seems to make a rash, dangerous clearance in every game. Solid, few shots to save.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

Punched the air in celebration after making a crucial last gasp challenge to stop Promes.

Kurt Zouma 8

MotM. Has quietly become senior partner in defence. Marshalled the defence brilliantly.

Fikayo Tomori 7

Is learning on the job. Does make mistakes - particularly with loose passes - but pace helps.

Marcos Alonso 6

Same old problem - good going forward, yet defensively always looks vulnerable.

Mateo Kovacic 7

Feels like Chelsea’s nearly man in midfield. Does really good things but never quite MotM.

Jorginho 7

Stuck to his task in deep midfield but did not get chance to create anything.

Mason Mount 7

Terrific run and shot was only denied by a smart save from Onana. Lively in midfield.

Willian 6

Frustrating night when little came off. Wiped out by brutal Tadic foul. Hooked early.

Callum Hudson-Odoi 6

Lively, got into good positions but decision making and final pass let him down.

Tammy Abraham 7

Even when he’s not scoring, his hold-up play improves. Getting better with each game.
