Chelsea picture special: Rudiger, Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic train ahead of West Ham clash

Chelsea return to Premier League action this afternoon as they welcome West Ham United to Stamford Bridge.

This game marks Frank Lampard's second taste of a London derby as Blues head coach and will have the added bonus of going up against his former club as well as facing Manuel Pellegrini - his manager for a season at Manchester City.

The west London outfit did get the better of Crystal Palace in their one and only meeting against a team from the capital so far this season.

That came before the final international break three weeks ago and the pause in the season just might have halted Chelsea's progress as they've not won any of their two matches since.

They'll be expected to pick up all three points against a struggling Hammers side and the good news for Lampard is that Antonio Rudiger took part in a training session ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge.

Injury and surgery has limited the German international to just 45 minutes of first-team action so far this season and he's pushing hard to make his return to action.

"He is getting closer, he has had a really good week’s work by the realisation and the reality is that he has not played for a very long time," Lampard told reporters. "It's a mini pre-season now that the injury seems to be hopefully finished and over.

"Now we need to get him fit and he is working very, very hard to make sure of that.

"It is days and weeks, rather than months which is great news for us."

In other team news, Callum Hudson-Odoi also took part in training which is yet another boost to Lampard as the wonderkid has missed the last two games because of the thigh problem sustained on international duty.

Two players who will miss the London derby are Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

In regards to the former, the extent of his hip injury will be revealed next week.

"We'll know by the end of the weekend, he's got some pain and won't be involved tomorrow," Lampard added. "But then we'll know by Monday."

Elsewhere, the Blues squad including the likes of Reece James, Christian Pulisic, N'Golo Kante and Jorginho were put through their paces at the club's training base in Cobham on Friday afternoon.
