Chelsea picture special: James, Hudson-Odoi, Gilmour and Maatsen train ahead of Grimsby clash

Chelsea have completed their final training session ahead of the Carabao Cup third round tie against Grimsby Town.

Head coach Frank Lampard is expected to make many changes to the side which were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at the weekend.

Two players set to get some minutes under their belts are Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi who have both missed the start of the season but featured for the Under-23's a few days ago.

Despite the obvious gulf in class between the two teams, Lampard has vowed not to take the League Two outfit lightly.

"[Hudson-Odoi and James will] be involved on Wednesday night, they'll be involved," he told the Fifth Stand . "We certainly need to look at players who haven't been playing as much against Grimsby.

"We'll pay them due respect, but it certainly is minutes for certain players who haven't been there.

"Callum is on the road to recovery. It was a long injury so he needs game time.

"And Reece, similarly, so yeah there'll be some different changes but I expect the same level of performance.

"And what I don't want to lose is the feeling of tonight [against Liverpool], the feeling of how we can be and it's important we keep that."

The aforementioned duo trained at Cobham on Tuesday as they were put through their paces alongside the likes of Marcos Alonso, Kepa, Willy Caballero, Ross Barkley and Michy Batshuayi.

Also present was Christian Pulisic who has lost his place in Lampard's starting lineup since returning from international duty.

Although, the USA international has been reassured that chances will come.

"(He's) Not a victim of the injuries, but just that I have a squad to pick from," Lampard said. "He played before that a few games, Willian has come back in and been sharp and good.

"It is just my choice to make and he will get ample opportunities. He is a young player.

"As much as everyone is talking about Mason, Tammy, Tomori, he is younger than some of them so his chances will come."
