Chelsea picture special: Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic, James and Jorginho train ahead of Newcastle clash

Chelsea and Frank Lampard have found home wins in the Premier League hard to come by so far this season.

Leicester City and Sheffield United both left Stamford Bridge with a point, while league leaders Liverpool took all three last month - just days after a disappointing defeat at the hands of Valencia in the Champions League.

It was a different story in the Carabao Cup as Lampard's first home win as head coach finally arrived as the Blues made light work of Grimsby Town.

That seems to have been the turning point as the west London outfit followed that up with a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion a few days later - their first home league win of the campaign.

A chance to make it three league home wins across all competitions arrives on Saturday afternoon when they host a Newcastle United side which has already beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United this season.

Speaking ahead of the game, Lampard admits he's wary of a Newcastle team which has shown resilience against the top teams.

"Of course they will attempt to do that," he said at his pre-match press conference. "I saw them at Tottenham earlier in the season put in a show of resilience and counter-attacking football.

"So whether they do exactly that, who knows. That is their prerogative but they have a template to getting results against teams in that way.

"So I will only see them at their best for the way that we prepare, what can they do to hurt us? We know in the Premier League every game has huge challenges and I expect nothing different from Newcastle."

In terms of team news, Lampard has confirmed that Andreas Christensen and N'Golo Kante will not feature because of injuries sustained during the international break.

However, Mateo Kovacic, Emerson Palmieri and Ross Barkley are fit but Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek remain sidelined.

"No, N'Golo's not fit, he had a small groin issue in the warm-up to the first international game for France," Lampard told reporters on Friday. "We didn't get him back until after the second game and he's not fit for Saturday.

"Kovacic had a knock on his thigh but has trained the last couple of days, so is in contention. Ross is fine.

"Andreas has a hamstring injury that will probably see him out for the next two weeks."

The Blues squad including the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, Mason Mount, Jorginho, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham were put through their paces at the club's training base in Cobham on Friday afternoon.
