Chelsea path to complete Moises Caicedo transfer clear as Brighton confirm replacement signing

Brighton have signed their potential replacement for Moises Caicedo, amid interest from Chelsea in the midfielder.

The 21-year-old was a star performer for the Seagulls last season as Roberto De Zerbi’s side sealed European football for the first time in their history. The Ecuadorian looked set to leave Brighton in January, but the south coast club held their nerve, with the midfielder ultimately signing a new contract with the Seagulls.

However, De Zerbi admitted last month that both Caicedo and recent Liverpool signing Alexis Mac Allister could be leaving the club this summer. football.london understands that Chelsea are wary that Caicedo could cost close to £100million . Meanwhile, Brighton have already boosted their midfield options.

Brighton have announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer. Dahoud, 27, is a Germany international and has signed a four-year deal, having previously been tracked by his new manager during De Zerbi’s time in charge of Sassuolo.

Speaking about the deal, Brighton’s technical director David Weir said: “We’re delighted to bring Mahmoud to the club, his quality and ability will really add to the options available to Roberto.

“He’s a quality player, he’s got lots of experience playing at a high level in Germany with great experience in Europe too.”

Back to Caicedo’s future and transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that the midfielder is in advanced discussions over personal terms with Chelsea, who are looking to land the first major signing under new boss Mauricio Pochettino. Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has also reported that Caicedo has chosen to join the west London club, though a fee is yet to be agreed.
