Chelsea are hopeful Tammy Abraham had not suffered a serious ankle injury after limping off at the end of the club’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.
The 22-year-old, who collided with Stamford Bridge advertising hoardings late on before being helped from the pitch at full-time, will be assessed later on Wednesday.
Abraham is expected to undergo a precautionary scan to determine the full extent of the problem, but the initial signs were promising after he left the stadium unaided and without wearing a protective boot.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard revealed Abraham had been managing the problem with an ice pack and a clearer picture will be possible once swelling has subsided.
Chelsea are already scouring the market for attacking options, with Edinson Cavani at Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon’s Moussa Dembele possible targets, but any lengthy setback for Abraham would force their hand.
A long-term absence would also be a major blow to England manager Gareth Southgate, who is already facing up to long spells on sidelines for two other strikers.
There are fears Tottenham’s Harry Kane might not play again this season, while Manchester United confirmed Marcus Rashford will be out for several weeks with a stress fracture in his back.
