Chelsea are optimistic Mason Mount will not be sidelined for as long as feared after he was injured against Valencia.
Mount, 20, turned his right ankle following a bad challenge from Francis Coquelin during Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League defeat but he looks to have avoided ligament damage.
The news is a major boost for Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, given there were fears the midfielder could be sidelined for a lengthy period.
Mount will continue to be assessed by Chelsea’s medical staff ahead of their Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
It remains to be seen if the 20-year-old can recover in time for the clash at Stamford Bridge.
If he does not return to face Jurgen Klopp’s tabletoppers, Mount could be back for the home game against Brighton on September 28.
