Chelsea open Romelu Lukaku loan talks with Inter Milan as club-record signing edges closer to quick exit

Chelsea are in talks with Inter Milan over a loan deal that would see striker Romelu Lukaku return to the Italian club just a year after leaving.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea last summer in a club-record transfer worth £97.5million, but struggled at Stamford Bridge and slipped down the attacking pecking order under manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Belgian is now eyeing a swift move back to Inter and talks are underway with Chelsea over a loan agreement.

Lukaku has entrusted lawyer Sebastien Ledure to lead negotiations as his deal with current agent Federico Pastorello is due to expire soon.

There is still work to be done to ensure Lukaku’s return to Inter happens, with his high wages, which are in the region of £300,000-a-week, a particular issue that needs to be resolved.

Chelsea will also demand a loan fee for the Belgium international, which Inter hope could be worth as little as £10m.
