Chelsea offer Man City defender Benjamin Mendy's name for printing on their new shirt

Have Chelsea just accidentally confirmed the signing of Benjamin Mendy from Manchester City?

The City defender is down the full-back pecking order at the Etihad, and seems to only be preferred as a wing-back in a back five this season.

Mendy has been celebrating his third Premier League title this week, but injury and form issues have meant he averages just 16 league appearances per title. As the summer transfer window approaches, speculation is growing that Mendy could be set for a transfer out of the club as Pep Guardiola reshuffles his title-winning squad.

And in a strange turn of events, Mendy's name has appeared on the list of personalisation options for Chelsea supporters wanting a player's name on the back of their shirts on their online shop.

Not to be confused with goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy, who has his own option for selection, Benjamin Mendy's name is clearly listed among the men's and women's players as Chelsea begin selling their new shirt for the 2021/22 season.

Also on the list is Manchester United Women winger Lauren James, sister of Chelsea defender Reece.

Clearly, this is far from confirmation of any transfer, but the presence of Mendy's name among those options is bound to increase speculation over his future at City.

Both options for City's Mendy and United's James were later removed from the Chelsea online store.
