Chelsea news: Zidane makes transfer claim, Blues legend on signing Kovacic, Coutinho latest

The season is coming to a close and Chelsea still have a lot to play for.

They are in the semi-finals of the Europa League and challenging for fourth place while Maurizio Sarri may well be fighting for the right to stay in his job.

The prospect of a transfer bans remains looming of Stamford Bridge but that hasn't stopped rumours emerging over who the Blues may target if they are successful with their appeal.

We've taken a look at some of the biggest storylines concerning Chelsea over the last 24 hours.

Take a look:

Zinedine Zidane and Eden Hazard

The big story that isn't going away are the links between Eden Hazard and Real Madrid.

The Chelsea talisman is having an inspired season and has kept his side in the hunt for fourth place. He has already recorded his best ever season in terms of goals for Blues but according to Zinedine Zidane that is not enough to convince him, that he can fulfill the Cristiano Ronaldo-sized hole in his team.

The truth behind Eden Hazard's wonder goal celebration against West Ham and Juan Roman Riquelme

It is a tall ask of any single player to be fair.

Zidane said, as reported by Mail Online : "The problem is that Cristiano [Ronaldo] cannot be replaced.

"He is gone, but we can bring any player and the player who comes will not do the same as Cristiano."

Mateo Kovacic future

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has handed some advice to Sarri ahead of the transfer window.

The Chelsea legend hasn't been too impressed with what he has seen from Kovacic and believes that the Croatian is just the third best in his position at the club.

He believes the club need a more incisive midfielder.

The former forward told Bwin: "I think he was signed as a way to get better value from the deal that saw Courtois go to Real Madrid, but he hasn’t been used correctly at Chelsea.

"Kovacic is a defensive midfielder and that is where he performed best at Real Madrid, but Chelsea are already blessed with Jorginho and Kante in that role.

"Chelsea need a midfielder who has creativity and can split defences with a final pass, who can set up strikers and achieve assists, but this is not Kovacic’s strengths."

Liverpool deliver stern message to supporters after Chelsea trouble

Philippe Coutinho transfer

Chelsea are reportedly the 'most likely destination' for Philippe Coutinho this summer if Barcelona decide to sell the midfielder.

The 26-year-old has not settled as well as hoped in the Barca first XI, and could be one of the players to make way as the Spanish giants target a squad overhaul in the summer, with Frenkie de Jong's signature already secured for €75m.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek makes big demand from his Chelsea team mates after defeat to Liverpool

Should Chelsea's transfer appeal at FIFA mean a suspension to their transfer ban,  Sport via Sport Witness  state that Coutinho could be a replacement for Eden Hazard, who is expected to move to Real Madrid in the summer.

If Chelsea are still unable to sign players in the summer, PSG could be an option for the former Liverpool star.

The Blues are also thought to be lining up a Premier League manager to replace Sarri and have their eye on one Ligue 1 star.
