Chelsea news: Wilfried Zaha transfer being considered with £40m flop set for exit

It's been a hectic summer for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, with several players leaving and arriving at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have signed first-team stars Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marc Cucurella and Cesare Casadei, while the likes Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Timo Werner and Emerson have left the Premier League club.

There are signs Tuchel's new squad is starting to gel, with Chelsea beating Leicester 2-1 at home on Saturday afternoon - despite being reduced to 10-men after Conor Gallagher's second yellow card in the 28th minute. Yet there's a chance they're not finished in the transfer market just yet. Here are the latest headlines from Stamford Bridge.

Zaha on radar

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who is also a target for Arsenal. The Ivory Coast international, 29, has scored three goals in as many Premier League games this season after scoring 14 in the competition last term.

Zaha has just one year remaining on his existing deal. It's believed Chelsea's primary targets are Everton winger Antony Gordon and Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They are expected to swoop for Zaha if they fail to bring in those two players.

Zaha does want to play in the Champions League, according to Roy Hodgson. The former England manager revealed the player's ambitions when he was in charge of Palace.

"Wilf Zaha will again be a name on many managers and sporting directors' lips and Wilf will retain his ambition of playing Champions League football and doing things we have not been able to give him while he has been playing here," said Hodgson in February 2021 when asked if Zaha will seek a transfer away from Selhurst Park that summer.

Hodgson added: "He is good enough to play at other clubs, but also he is a player we would really like to keep here because he has been so important for us and he is very important to all the fans and everyone around the club."

Havertz hails Sterling

Kai Havertz has praised Sterling after the England international scored both of Chelsea's goals against the Foxes. Sterling, 27, completed a move from Manchester City to the Blues earlier this summer after winning four Premier League titles at the Etihad.

"We needed goals, he scored two goals in the end and that’s the most important thing," said Havertz. "In the end, I think he did well and he helped us a lot today. It is very exciting [having Sterling]. We have played four games and he has shown his quality today again.

"It is nice to play with him. He has lot of experience and knows how to move, and it helps you a lot if you have such experienced players next to you. His style of play suits us very well."

Bakayoko set for move

Tiemoue Bakayoko could become a free agent in the coming days. The Chelsea midfielder, 28, is on loan at Italian champions AC Milan but is struggling for minutes. He played just 14 Serie A games last term and has been left on the bench for every match this term.

Bakayoko's loan deal doesn't expire until June 2023, but it's believed the arrangement could be cancelled. Milan manager Stefano Pioli is said to be happy to let the player leave the San Siro, with Newcastle and Nottingham Forest monitoring his situation.

Forest have already made 19 signings this summer and a 20th arrival would be staggering. It's thought Monza, who won promotion to Serie A in May, are the favourites for his Bakayoko's signature. Arsenal defender Pablo Mari recently joined the minnows on loan.

Bakayoko's Chelsea contract could even be cancelled two years ahead of schedule - just like Ross Barkley's. The England international, 28, was made a free agent on Monday afternoon after leaving Stamford Bridge by mutual consent. It's unclear where his future lies.

"We would like to thank Ross for his contribution to Chelsea and wish him well for the rest of his career," read a Chelsea statement.
