Chelsea news: Warning signs for Blues, ex-Leeds man's bold prediction, Tomori's frank assessment

The first month of the Premier League season is now over - and many Chelsea players are heading off to link up with their national sides over the international break.

But they are doing so following a disappointing 2-2 draw with newly-promoted Sheffield United, with the Blues being pegged back at Stamford Bridge after taking a two-goal lead against the Blades.

Tammy Abraham bagged a first half brace to seemingly put the Blues on course for a first home win of the season, but Chris Wilder's men fought back to salvage a point.

Below, we look at the fallout from that game and the latest news from west London.

Frank Lampard's admission

The Blues' head coach has admitted that he saw Sheffield United's fightback coming , after conceding that he was not overly happy with his side's performance at Stamford Bridge.

Despite taking a two-goal lead in the first half in west London, thanks to Tammy Abraham's double, Lampard admitted that there were signs that all was not well with his side's performance.

He said he warned the players at half-time, but the visitors scored a minute after the restart, proving his point, and from that moment the Blades grew in confidence, earning a deserved share of the spoils in the final minute.

“I saw it coming,” Lampard said. “If we were to go out and make a mistake or play how we were playing … it wasn’t bad, the first half, but I felt there were signs that we needed to tighten up.

“I wasn’t happy with the first half. They had gifted us two goals. Our performance was OK. We were in a dangerous position. It wasn’t a happy half-time. The warning signs were there in my opinion and we didn’t react to that on the pitch.”

Tomori's disappointment

It was a big day for Fikayo Tomori as he made his full debut for Chelsea in the game at Stamford Bridge.

Tomori lined up as part of the youngest-ever Blues starting XI in the Premier League era, having been handed a start by Lampard, who worked with him at Derby County last season during his loan spell with the Rams.

But the 21-year-old spoke of his disappointment after the game, after a Callum Robinson strike and an own goal from Kurt Zouma helped Sheffield United battle back to claim a point.

“We’re all angry because when you’re 2-0 up at home then the game should be safe,” Tomori told the club’s website as he gave an honest assessment of the 2-2 draw.

“We said at half-time that we wanted to up it again but we didn’t do that. We conceded a goal really early on in the second half and it becomes very difficult when you do that. It’s disappointing but we just have to learn from it.

Big Tammy Abraham prediction

Harry Kewell believes Tammy Abraham has the potential to be “one of the best strikers in England” after his brace against Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old doubled his tally for the season as he netted twice against the Blades, with his first half double moving him on to four goals for the campaign so far.

And the former Leeds United and Liverpool man feels the England U21 international has huge potential, with Kewell comparing him to former Chelsea goalscorer Didier Drogba.

When asked on Sky Sports programme Goals on Sunday whether Abraham could be as good as the Blues legend, Kewell said: “I think he can - he’s got the height, he’s got the pace.

“He’s lacking a bit of strength at the moment but, when he gets that, there’s no reason why this boy can’t be one of the best strikers in England.

“He’s taking chances and he’s hitting the target. He’s not missing them, he’s not scuffing them, he’s hitting the target. For me, I think he’s got a bright future.”
