Chelsea news: Triple injury blow, Willian surprise, Ampadu debut and Kante to Liverpool transfer

Chelsea will be hoping November is just as impressive as October in terms of progression and results.

Last month was almost perfect for the west London outfit as defeat against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night stopped them from making it six wins from six games.

That brilliant run came on the back of a 2-1 home loss at the hands of Liverpool in mid-September and head coach Frank Lampard will be hoping for a similar reaction to this setback.

Luckily the chance to get back on track isn't too far away.

Lampard's side face Watford away from home in the Premier League's late kick-off today and with Ajax to come in the Champions League on Tuesday, all eyes will be on team selection at Vicarage Road.

With that said, here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Triple injury blow

Lampard delivered some important Chelsea injury news ahead of Saturday evening's Premier League encounter against Watford.

The Blues head coach hasn't had much luck on the injury front so far this season, but it appeared he had been given a major boost when Antonio Rudiger declared himself fit.

However, that's not the case as the German international as well as N'Golo Kante and Ross Barkley have been ruled out.

"Himself and N’Golo carried over injuries from last season and it’s been a domino effect. The players will be frustrated. Disappointing for me because I want to select them but it brings opportunities for other players.

"N’Golo is close, working with the team now. "Ross Barkley is still not right but not far away."

Willian nomination

As mentioned above, the Blues maintained a 100 per cent winning record in the Premier League last month and one player in particular has been nominated for the Player of the Month award.

However, this might come as a surprise to many.

Christian Pulisic claimed an assist against Southampton, helped change the game against the Magpies and scored the perfect hat-trick in the 4-2 win over the Clarets, but is not the player in question.

Neither is Callum Hudson-Odoi despite two assists in those three Premier League games in October.

The Chelsea star nominated for the Player of the Month award is Willian.

Ampadu debut

Football.london reported last month that Ethan Ampadu was close to getting his chance at RB Leipzig and that was the case on Wednesday evening.

With Leipzig 5-0 up against Wolfsburg in a German Cup game away from home, head coach Julian Nagelsmann decided it was time to hand Ampadu his first-team debut.

And the Blues youngster played the final 18 minutes as he replaced Dayot Upamecano and some supporters from his parent club kept a close eye on how he got on.

Kante transfer claim

Whilst praising the work of Fabinho, ex-Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer says that N'Golo Kante would be the ideal transfer for Jurgen Klopp's side in the January window.

"He took time to settle at Anfield but was taken out of the team and given time on the training ground and has now slotted back in seamlessly. He just gets it, gives it and doesn’t do anything flamboyant, though it took him a while to learn the role.

"And that’s exactly what he’s doing. His awareness of danger is fantastic.

"He and N'Golo Kante at Chelsea are the two best players in the Premier League playing that role - Kante is definitely one of the final pieces in Jurgen Klopp’s jigsaw."
