Chelsea news: Transfer ban appeal, January plans, why Jim Ratcliffe didn't buy the club

The international break is almost over and Premier League football will soon be back on the agenda.

With the summer transfer window behind us, attention quickly turns to what business clubs can do in January.

Can Chelsea do any business in January, that's the question?

Not as it stands, but their transfer ban could be lifted.

All that and more is in our round-up of the biggest Blues stories from the past 24 hours.

Transfer ban

Chelsea will not be able to sign any players in January as it stands.

The Blues were handed a two-window transfer ban by FIFA for breaking regulations over the signing of youth players.

And January will be their second transfer window.

However, the club are hopeful that the appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport will see that overturned in time for January.

And they have been putting the feelers out over signings already.

Find out all about the latest on the CAS appeal here.

Players to sign

It was a quiet summer for Chelsea as a result of that transfer ban.

But if they do get it overturned, they could be in for a busy January.

Frank Lampard will be keen to add to his young squad, and there are a number of areas that need consideration.

Here we take a look at the players the Blues could bring in during the winter window.

Zaha move

Wilfried Zaha is one of those players that the Blues could target in January if they are able to.

There were reports towards the end of the summer transfer window, that with Zaha not moving away from Crystal Palace, that Chelsea might have come to an agreement over a January transfer already.

While there is no confirmation of that yet, he could be a player of interest to the Blues in Janaury.

The fans are split on him signing though.

Read what they think here.

Ratcliffe takeover

The richest man in Britain was recently linked with a takeover of Chelsea.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in the market for a football club and a number were named as potential destinations for him.

With question marks over Roman Abramovich's commitment to the Blues, Ratcliffe was in the frame to take over.

But he went on to buy French club Nice, ending all hopes of a move to Stamford Bridge.

And his brother Bob has spoken out about the negotiations with Chelsea over the club.

There was one big reason why it did not happen.
