Chelsea news: Transfer ban appeal, double injury boost and Lampard's £150m January dilemma

It's matchday!

Chelsea are back in Premier League action this afternoon as they travel to Merseyside to take on an Everton side which has struggled to live up to pre-season expectations thus far.

The Toffees are currently in the relegation zone following their defeat against Liverpool on Wednesday night - a result which proved to be the final straw for Marco Silva as he was sacked less than 24 hours later.

If the Blues can pile on the misery for Everton then they'll move level on points with Manchester City ahead of their clash against Manchester United later this evening.

And more importantly a win would pile the pressure on Wolves, United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the top four.

With that said, here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Transfer ban appeal

The biggest Chelsea news centres around their transfer ban appeal.

On Friday morning it was announced that they can sign players in the January window after their two window ban was cut in half which means they've already served their punishment.

A statement reads: "A CAS arbitration procedure was initiated in June 2019, following the receipt of CFC’s appeal, and conducted by a Sole Arbitrator (Prof. Massimo Coccia (Italy)).

"The club did not file any application for provisional measures but requested that a final decision be rendered before the end of 2019. A hearing was held at the CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 20 November 2019."

Lampard's £150m transfer dilemma

Frank Lampard will have a transfer budget of about £150million to spend in January if he chooses.

Chelsea had already been sounding out plenty of options prior to CAS confirming their appeal had been successful, gauging the interest of various parties.

But with his side going well in the Premier League and just a win away from sealing a place in the Champions League knockout stages, does the Blues head coach need to dip into the market next month?

Double injury boost

Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley will be available to face Everton.

"Tammy Abraham is good, he hasn’t done much in between games," Lampard confirmed. "We will make sure of that in the morning but at the moment he is good."

Barkley will be in the squad to face his former club, but the game comes too soon for Antonio Rudiger.

"Rudiger had a really good week of training," Lampard added. "We had to get him match fitness type of training, which he has gone through this week.

"Tomorrow will come too soon, but he has had a great week and is on the verge."

Lampard vow

Frank Lampard has calmed Chelsea fans' fears over the club's wonderkids amid the transfer ban being reduced.

"They [the fans] won't lose that feeling for the young players, they won't lose it because the young players are here to stay," Lampard said. "And the young players beneath that, if they train well enough and show enough then they'll get their opportunities because that's how I am here.

"So I don't think there's any problem with that, if we're going to try and do something it will be for the improvement of the squad but if you think we're going to line up Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Reece James and sell them, we're not.

"They're here to stay so the fans will be happy that they can keep that relationship and know that anything we do do going forward now will be to try and improve from that base.

"I have ideas of players in my mind but at the same time with this it’s so fluid because my feeling is how they’re my players now, that’s my first problem, how they train daily and how they perform at weekend.

"And then review the squad as a whole."
