Chelsea news: Thiago Silva gives Mauricio Pochettino approval amid broken promise

Chelsea take a break from action this weekend in what will likely be a relief to Frank Lampard and Blues supporters.

The Blues are currently on a four-match losing run since the former midfielder returned to Stamford Bridge as interim boss as Graham Potter’s replacement. Their latest reverse came last weekend against Brighton.

However, due to this weekend’s opponents Manchester United being in FA Cup action, Chelsea get a matchday off. That will give Todd Boehly and the club hierarchy some time to continue their search for the new man at the helm.

With all of that being said, take a look at all of the headlines coming out of Stamford Bridge from over the past 24 hours.

Silva gives Pochettino approval

Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva previously hailed Mauricio Pochettino’s knowledge of football as the Argentine edges towards a move to Stamford Bridge. The former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss has held talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy regarding the prospect of taking the reins in west London.

Speaking after the Argentine’s arrival at PSG after replacing ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, the Brazilian defender said: “Mauricio Pochettino did a good job with Tottenham, I think he comes very motivated, 20 years after playing for PSG. He knows the club a bit

“Of course that has changed a lot, but he knows football a lot, he will work with very high level players. I am still a supporter of PSG.”

Pochettino edges towards broken promise

On the topic of the Argentine coach, he could soon be set to break a promise he made to Tottenham supporters. Speaking during his final months in north London, Pochettino suggested that he would not be interested in managing the rivals of the clubs he holds so dearly.

"I am so clear I am never going to be manager of Barcelona or Arsenal because I am so identified with Tottenham and Espanyol," he explained.

Rangnick warns Nagelsmann about Chelsea job

Ralf Rangnick has urged Julian Nagelsmann to think twice about joining Chelsea due to the ongoing turmoil at Stamford Bridge.

The former Manchester United boss told ZDF, via German outlet BILD: “At the moment, no matter who comes as a coach, you can’t really recommend anyone to go there. The very first thing to do is establish some sort of strategy and reduce the squad to a reasonable size that any coach can work with.”

The German’s warning comes in the wake of his uninspiring stint as interim manager of Old Trafford last season.
