Chelsea news: Stark financial warning, how Man United helped the Blues, John Terry's message

The international break is now upon us, and several Chelsea players are now away with their countries.

But the Blues have gone into the break in fine spirits after a 4-1 win against Southampton on Sunday, which moved Frank Lampard's men up to fifth in the Premier League after eight games.

It has been a good few weeks for the Blues, with four wins in a row in all competitions, which included two victories in the Premier League, a 7-1 rout of Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup and a 2-1 win away at Lille in the Champions League.

As such, Lampard and his men are buoyant ahead of the return of Premier League action next week, when Newcastle United visit Stamford Bridge.

Below, we take a look at the latest news on the Blues amid the second international break of the season.

A stark financial warning for Chelsea and the rest of the Premier League

Broadcast revenues are a key factor for Premier League clubs as to why many English clubs are among the richest in the world.

But that could be about to change, according to the head of the world's largest investor in managed television rights.

Yousef Al-Obaidly, CEO of beIN Sports, used a speech at the Leaders' Sport Business Summit to announce that the company's offers for future broadcast agreements will reflect the fact that they "regard all sports rights as non-exclusive".

The Qatar-based broadcaster has been battling against beOutQ, an operation in Saudi Arabia that distributes beIN's coverage illegally.

And Al-Obaidly has warned Premier League clubs they face a major financial blow due to a "media rights bubble [that] is about to burst" as piracy threatens the industry.

The Premier League's most recent round of broadcast rights sales for the period from 2019 to 2022 earned them a record £9.2billion, though domestic rights fell slightly from the peak of £5.4billion earned for the 2016 to 2019 cycle.

The change in form since Manchester United defeat

The last few weeks have been very good for Chelsea - particularly away from home.

Since the Blues lost 4-0 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season, Frank Lampard's men have won four away games in a row in all competitions, including three on the road in the Premier League against Norwich City, Wolves and Southampton.

Midfielder Mason Mount has scored in each of those victories, and he has spoken about what Chelsea took from the opening day defeat that has helped them in recent matches away from home.

"We look back at that [Man United] game and to lose 4-0 is not good, but we took a lot of positives from the game and we did not think it was a 4-0," he said, speaking to Chelsea's official website .

"We bounced back and now we are in fifth position and we just need to keep working hard and hopefully we can get the three points every game.

"We have been playing well and having that big result in the Champions League [a 2-1 win away against Lille], that really helped us out. It has been going well away from home."

John Terry's message

It was another good day on the road for the Blues at St Mary's on Sunday, with Chelsea running out 4-1 winners against Southampton.

Understandably, head coach Frank Lampard was a happy man after the game, heaping praise on his players and supporters on social media.

"Well done to all our team yesterday," he wrote on Instagram . "The hard work continues.

"Fans were incredible as always."

And it was not just the Chelsea fans who enjoyed his message, with Blues legend John Terry also commenting on the post from the boss.

In reply to his message, the now-Aston Villa assistant manager said: "Brilliant Frank Lampard, great to watch mate."
