Chelsea news: Roman Abramovich assets frozen as Blues face injury concerns

Roman Abramovich has had billions of pounds worth of assets frozen.

Chelsea are expected to have a few players missing due to injury and illness when they take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon. A number of stars missed the UEFA Champions League fixture against Real Madrid on Tuesday night and it is expected they may not return in time for the showpiece tie at Wembley Stadium.

The battle to buy the club has taken another twist as LA Dodgers co-owners go head to head with bids.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Chelsea headlines.

Abramovich sanctions latest

Outgoing Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has had £5.4billion worth of assests frozen.

This comes on the back of police on Channel Island searching a property which is believed to be owned by Abramovich. The Jersey Law Officers' Department said in a statement: "Search warrants were executed by the States of Jersey Police at premises in Jersey suspected to be connected to the business activities of Roman Abramovich."

The Russian oligarch is being forced to sell the west London club due to alleged close ties to Vladimir Putin after the outbreak of the attack on Ukraine by Russia.

FA Cup squad update

Chelsea are unlikely to be at full strength when they take on Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The FA Cup semi-final represents the last chance of silverware for the Blues but they will enter the match with fitness doubts over Romelu Lukaku who missed the UEFA Champions League quarter-final loss to Real Madrid with an Achilles injury and Ross Barkely who was absent in Madrid to a non-Covid related illness.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is also a doubt a having not played since the FA Cup fifth round win.

Takeover bid strange turn

American baseball franchise the LA Dodgers co-owners are set to go head to head for the right to buy Chelsea.

The club have been available since the UK government imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich, forcing him to sell the team he bought back in 2003. A number of consortiums have placed an interest in the west London outfit and the process is now down to four bids.

Peter Guber and Mark Walter co-own the Dodgers but are part of separate bids for the reigning UEFA Champions League holders.
