Chelsea starlet Reece James is set to miss the start of the season after suffering ankle ligament damage while on England U20 duty.
The 19-year-old right-back was taken off on a stretcher during the Toulon Tournament after receiving oxygen on the pitch.
It was initially suspected James had suffered a broken ankle, however, a subsequent scan is said to have revealed ligament damage that could sideline the highly touted teenager for up to three months, ruling him out of the Blues' pre-season.
James starred on loan with Wigan in the Championship last season and was included in the league's team of the year after featuring in every game for the Lactics.
In his final game with the club, he was even handed the armband as a sign of appreciation and returned to Chelsea to train with the first team ahead of their Europa League final against Arsenal.
James was formerly part of the all-conquering Chelsea youth side that featured Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jonathan Panzo.
