Chelsea news: N'Golo Kante blow, Gary Neville's plea to fans and Lampard speaks ahead of Wolves

The Premier League is almost back.

Chelsea fans just have a matter of hours to wait until they take on Wolves at Molineux.

The Blues go into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United before the international break, while Wolves will be looking to pick up their first win of the season to move them away from the bottom end of the season.

With the return of the Premier League, there has been a lot of news around Stamford Bridge.

With that said, here is the latest news from the last 24 hours.

N'Golo Kante fitness blow

Blues' head coach Frank Lampard has confirmed that Chelsea will be without influential midfielder N'Golo Kante for the trip to Molineux.

The Frenchman picked up an injury during pre-season, but has not yet been able to fully shake off the problem. It was hoped that Kante would be fit in time for the trip to Wolves, but Lampard has revealed that the game has come too soon for him.

"He still has issues with his ankle. The medical team are working with him. He is in a transition period and we are trying to get him on the pitch. He is doing some physical work but this game comes too soon for him," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"Hopefully he is close. I don’t want to jump the gun because we are waiting for improvements for that final step to get him where we want him to be on the pitch."

Lampard also issued an injury update on defender Antonio Rudiger.

Neville's plea to Chelsea fans

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has pleaded with the Chelsea fans and the board to show patience with new head coach Frank Lampard.

Lampard arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer and has had to contend with a transfer ban as well as the departure of talisman Eden Hazard, who joined Real Madrid.

"Lampard is a young manager, but having made the decision to appoint him, it doesn't seem right that they're not going to go with them and back them with what they are trying to do - because he's trying to change the culture at the club," he said.

"If you are trying to do what Lampard's doing, which is bringing through the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and other academy-type players, you are going to have to give him time."
