Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is confident he will thrive under Frank Lampard’s tactics this season, having been afforded the “freedom to attack” from the back.
The Spaniard struggled to make an impression under Maurizio Sarri during the 2018/19 campaign but is hoping to find his feet again.
With the Blues currently in Japan for their pre-season, Alonso and Co are being put through their paces by Lampard.
“The first few sessions have been going very well,” Alonso recently told Sky Sports.
“I feel very good playing the way the manager wants with high intensity, trying to keep the ball, moving the ball side to side and giving freedom for the full-backs to attack.
“Of course, knowing that our main target is to defend but I’m very happy with how we’re working and looking forward to the start of the season.”
The full-back is in contention to play in tomorrow evening's pre-season clash with Barcelona in Saitama.
After that, Chelsea return to the UK to take on Reading this Sunday.
