Chelsea news: Major blow for Man City, warning for Liverpool, who Blues fans want to see sold

Chelsea fans have got plenty to cheer at the moment, with the Blues currently sitting in third place in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard's men have been in fine form of late, with six wins in a row in the Premier League helping the Blues move above Manchester City into third place in the table, ahead of the international break.

And with Chelsea also in contention to qualify from their group in the Champions League, Blues fans have a lot to be happy about at the moment.

There is no game for Chelsea this weekend owing to international fixtures, but ahead of the Blues' next game against Manchester City on Saturday, November 23, we take a look at the latest news from Stamford Bridge.

Man City dealt big blow ahead of Chelsea clash

Manchester City will be without Bernardo Silva for the visit of Chelsea a week on Saturday.

The Portugal international is to serve a one-game suspension in relation to a social media message posted about team-mate Benjamin Mendy.

Silva was charged with misconduct by the Football Association last month after he compared Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos - a sweet brand available in Spain and Portugal.

The tweet was quickly deleted, with Silva posting a follow-up response to say: "Can't even joke with a friend these days...you guys."

An FA commission has now delivered its verdict on the case, with the report stating that Silva did not intend the post to be insulting or in any way racist.

The FA commission also said that they had received a letter written by Mendy in support of his team-mate.

However, the report added: "Many persons viewing the imagery depicted in the tweet would have taken offence to the content as being insulting by reference to race, colour and ethnic origin in a way that unquestionably brings the game of football into disrepute."

A statement via the FA's official website reads: "Bernardo Silva has been suspended for one first team competitive fixture, fined £50,000 and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3.

"The Manchester City midfielder’s social media activity on 22 September 2019 breached FA Rule E3(1), as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and constituted an “Aggravated Breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin."

The 25-year-old, who has scored five goals and registered two assists in 11 Premier League appearances so far this season, will now miss the game after the international break.

Glenn Hoddle's warning for Liverpool and Manchester City

Things are looking pretty rosy for Frank Lampard and Chelsea at the moment.

With the Blues currently on a six-game winning streak in the Premier League, Lampard's men have risen to third in the top flight, above their next opponents Manchester City.

As such, the hopes of Chelsea fans are increasing, and former Blues midfielder Glenn Hoddle has delivered his assessment of the current side.

"They're a very exciting team to watch," Hoddle told Premier League Productions.

"I don't know whether those youngsters would have had a chance without the (transfer) embargo, but they’ve been given a chance.

"The one key thing is, when you put youngsters in they’ve got to be good enough, and these guys are good enough.

"There’s five of them there that I think in two years time they’re going to be ready to win the league. I really do feel that there's a foundation and building blocks to really go on and become something special."

His comments should serve as a warning to Liverpool and Manchester City, with the Blues hoping to challenge at the top over the coming seasons.
