Chelsea news: Loanee not expected to return, Reece James' future & Eden Hazard's successor

Chelsea will play for the first time under Frank Lampard later in the week with the team currently in Dublin.

Bohemians are first up for the new head coach on Wednesday evening, with a game against St Patrick's Athletic to follow on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea are still missing a number of players due to the recent international games but they still have a strong squad out in Ireland at present.

Here we take a look at the latest news regarding the Blues with the new season just over a month away.

Loanee not to return to Chelsea

Reports in Brazil state that Chelsea midfielder Nathan will not be returning to the capital this summer.

The Brazilian returned to his homeland 12 months ago to join Atletico Mineiro on a season-long loan deal having failed to make a single appearance for the Blues.

According to UOL (via Sport Witness ), the player's loan spell has been extended by a further six months, although it has not been made official just yet.

The player's contract is due to run out next year and a permanent move could well be a possibility given it's incredibly unlikely he will force his way into the plans in west London.

Hudson-Odoi's role

Lampard has been discussing Callum Hudson-Odoi's future at the club following plenty of speculation over his future.

The Blues are desperate for the youngster to pen a new contract in west London after Bayern Munich's attempts to sign him back in January.

A number of academy players are expected to feature under Lampard next season and the new head coach has explained that the England international is "central" to his Chelsea plans.

James' future

Reece James could be another one of the club's young players to feature regularly under Lampard next season.

The right-back was sensational in his time on loan at Wigan Athletic last season and a number of clubs have been linked with a summer move for the 19-year-old.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace want to lure the player across the capital following Aaron Wan-Bissaka's move to Manchester United last month.

Chelsea do have a good relationship with the Eagles after both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Michy Batshuayi spent time on loan at Selhurst Park over the past two years.

Read here to see why a move could benefit both parties.

Hazard's successor

Eden Hazard will be playing his football at Real Madrid next season after completing a big-money move to the Spanish giants last month.

That means his No.10 shirt is currently vacant at Chelsea ahead of next season.

A number of players will have their eyes on the famous number as the club have yet to confirm the squad numbers for next season.

Here we take a look at the players who could take on the N0.10 shirt.
