Chelsea news: Lampard's Hudson-Odoi warning, Abraham's message, what Mount did to delight fans

It was a good day on the south coast for Chelsea yesterday (Sunday) as they ran out 4-1 winners against Southampton.

Frank Lampard's Blues go into the international break off the back of an impressive display at St Mary's, with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi on target for Chelsea as they moved fifth in the Premier League.

The Chelsea head coach was full of praise for his side after the game as he hailed their recent form in the league, but he insisted that there is still room for improvement, with the Blues failing to keep a clean sheet for the seventh time in eight league matches.

But for now, several players are heading off on international duty, before Chelsea return to action against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge, on Saturday, October 19.

Below, we take a look at the latest Chelsea news following the win at Southampton.

Lampard's warning about Hudson-Odoi

Frank Lampard delighted Chelsea fans by starting Callum Hudson-Odoi in the Premier League for the first time this season.

The teenager missed the start of the season as he continued his recovery from an Achilles injury, but he has returned in recent weeks with an impressive performance against Grimsby Town and a fine cameo from the bench against Lille in the Champions League.

He impressed at St Mary's as well, with the assist for Tammy Abraham's goal as Chelsea won 4-1.

But Lampard had an ominous warning for Chelsea's rivals about Hudson-Odoi, who had a couple of good opportunities to cap his display with a goal.

"I thought he did well. It was a great assist for Tammy’s goal," Lampard said.

"I thought his work rate was good. In the first half his work rate of staying close to the midfielder and staying close to the full-back was all the things that want from the wingers.

"He could have got his goal. Looking to run in behind people, getting in behind people quite a few times in the game where he can be lethal, and that’s where I want him to be. And he will get better because he has had a serious injury so the fitness has been a bit of an issue and looking after him now that he’s getting towards proper match fitness.

Tammy Abraham's message

It has been quite the week for Tammy Abraham.

After marking his 22nd birthday with a goal in the Champions League victory over Lille, Abraham celebrated a recall to Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

He then netted his ninth goal of the season for Chelsea with an instinctive looped finish to open the scoring against Southampton.

And after the match, Abraham spoke about his week to remember and was humble in his response, directing attention towards the work that those around him contribute.

“It’s been fantastic. I give it to my teammates, the manager, the staff, everyone who has believed in me, they’re always providing me chances and when you play with such great players, you always get chances," he told Sky Sports.

Mason Mount's moment with the fans

Mason Mount has been one of the shining lights of Chelsea's season so far.

He got his fourth goal of the season at Southampton, following on from strikes against Leicester City, Norwich City and Wolves.

But his goal on the south coast will have been even sweeter for the Portsmouth-born midfielder, who grew up as a Pompey fan and had a season ticket at Fratton Park.

After scoring against the rivals of his boyhood club, Mount celebrated in front of the Southampton fans at St Mary's, with the 20-year-old clearly enjoying his strike as he cupped his ears towards the home supporters.

And a message from his father Tony on social media shows just how much it meant to Mount and his family.

He took to social networking website Twitter, to post a message that simply read: "Special goal" with a picture of Mount scoring at St Mary's.

It was not just the player and his father who enjoyed it though, with Chelsea and Portsmouth fans reacting to what he did after scoring his goal.

Here's what they had to say .
