Chelsea news: Injury nightmare, contract decisions, Newcastle lineup, Hudson-Odoi message

We are on the home straight towards the return of the Premier League now.

The international break is more than halfway through now, with Frank Lampard's Chelsea due back in action this Saturday against Newcastle United.

With Arsenal not playing until Monday night, the Blues can move into the top four, for at least a couple of days, with victory over the Magpies.

Lampard will be assessing his players after the international break, however, to see which of them are ready to play and who he may have to rest after their week's work on the international scene.

For all that and more, here's our round up of the biggest stories from around Stamford Bridge in the last 24 hours.

Contract decisions

Frank Lampard has overseen a new era of youth at Stamford Bridge since his arrival as the new head coach in the summer.

Lampard has already made the decision to give youth a chance, but there are others he will have to make in the coming months.

A number of the players at Stamford Bridge are coming to the end of their contracts at the club.

And Lampard will have to decide which ones he wants to keep, if any, and which he wants to say goodbye to.

Here's what we think he will do.

Newcastle lineup

If contracts are decisions for Lampard in the long-term, the short-term decision for the Blues boss revolves around his team selection for Saturday's game with Newcastle United.

After a two-week international break, Lampard will have to juggle players returning to Cobham at different times and any who are carrying niggles.

He will also have to look back at how the team performed against Southampton and act accordingly.

Here's how we think he might lineup.

Hudson-Odoi bond

Callum Hudson-Odoi is finally back in the Chelsea first team.

The talented youngster has had to wait on the sidelines as he recovered from a ruptured Achilles' tendon, but he is now back in Frank Lampard's plans.

It was a difficult time for the midfielder, suffering his first big injury, but he had someone to help keep him positive.

Find out how he got through the injury problems right here.

Injury problems

Frank Lampard has not had it easy since he has been in charge at Chelsea.

The Blues are fifth in the Premier League after eight games of the season, only outside the top four on goal difference.

It has been a good start to life in the Blues hotseat for Lampard, who has been able to trust on his young players.

But he has also had to deal with his fair share of injuries - 17 in fact, to 14 different players.

Here's what that has all meant for the club's season so far and the rest of the campaign moving forward.
