Chelsea news: Hakim Ziyech makes Morocco return as teammate told he's 'not good enough'

Chelsea's last Premier League game feels like a distant memory following two postponements and the international break.

The Blues haven't played a domestic game since their 2-1 win against West Ham on September 3 when Thomas Tuchel was still the manager. Graham Potter is now in the hot seat and will take charge of his Premier League game against Crystal Palace on October 1.

Although Chelsea haven't played much of late, the news never stops. As exclusively revealed by Mirror Football, chair Todd Boehly is ready to pay £30million for Fulham teenager Luke Harris, 17. Here are the rest of the headlines from the Stamford Bridge.

Blues pick up first win

Chelsea recorded their first Women's Super League win of the season on Sunday by beating Manchester City 2-0 at Kingsmeadow. Goals from Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde helped Emma Hayes' side bounce back from last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Blues playmaker Kirby told Sky Sports: "It is really nice [to get the win]. We knew we needed to improve from the first game. The first half probably wasn't our best performance either but we were better in the second half and we got our rewards.

"I said last week that it doesn't matter who scores the goals, but I'm glad to get the goal and continue on a high. Our overall patience and quality of passing [improved in the second half]. In the first half we were quite sloppy, particularly around their box.

"We got more composure, getting the goal settled us down a bit. This team is all about scoring; we're not about possession football. We're going to sit down and analyse this game, see where we can improve and look forward to the game on Wednesday [vs West Ham]."

Aubameyang 'not good enough'

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was told he was "not good at playing football" as a youngster. The Chelsea striker, 33, has enjoyed a brilliant career so far, scoring more than 300 goals at club level and winning six trophies - including the FA Cup with Arsenal.

Aubameyang said: "I’ve been through a lot of bad moments, not injuries. I was okay but at the beginning of my career everyone was talking about me as a sprinter only.

"This hurts sometimes because you know where you’ve come from, you know you went through a lot of stuff and you always try your best and some people, even from your club say you’re not good at playing football."

Ziyech makes comeback

Hakim Ziyech made his first international appearance in 15 months by helping Morocco beat Chile 2-0 in Spain on Friday night. The 29-year-old retired from international football in February after a falling out with former manager Vahid Halilhodzic.

Morocco's ex-boss accused Ziyech of feigning injuries to miss friendlies, something the player denied. "For me, the collective is more important," said Halilhodzic at the start of the year. "Anyone who doesn't respect the team cannot play with me.

"When you wear the national team jersey and behind you there are 38million Moroccans who love that team and are proud of it, you cannot spoil its image. It's important that everyone behaves correctly."

Yet Halilhodzic was recently sacked and succeeded by former Morocco international Walid Regragui, paving the way for Ziyech to return to international football. Morocco have qualified for this year's World Cup in Qatar, which starts in November.
