Chelsea news: Gonzalo Higuain insists Maurizio Sarri will get best out of him ahead of Man City clash

Gonzalo Higuain insists Maurizio Sarri is the man to bring the best out of him at Chelsea.

The Argentine striker struck a double against Huddersfield to open his account for the Blues since his loan move from Juventus following a miserable time at AC Milan this season.

The pair combined to devastating effect at Napoli, with Higuain scoring 38 goals in his best season at the San Paolo before moving to the Old Lady.

And Higuain believes Sarri has that special connection with him as he prepares to take on the champions Manchester City

“He is the coach that has got the best out of me,” the 31-year-old told Sky Sports. “I know him well, he knows me well.

“I’m hopeful I will get back to that level we had before, this is the idea. He is someone who helps me, knows my game and how to get the best out of me.

“I am very happy to be here. It’s a wonderful club with a wonderful stadium and it is really a fantastic experience. I hope with time that this team will be able to achieve all the goals they can.”

Higuain has denied he has a point to prove, despite a disappointing spell at the San Siro.

"No, not at all," he replied. "I am someone who always does my best and tries to improve.

"To come and join Maurizio at such a great team like Chelsea, I didn't hesitate for one second. I am proud to be here and hope to perform to the best of my ability."

Chelsea face City at the Etihad today already one place lower than they were at the start of the weekend, after Manchester United leaped a point ahead of them into fourth after their 3-0 victory over Fulham.

A point will take them back into the Champions League spots due to their superior goal difference, whilst Pep Guardiola's side must win to reclaim top spot from Liverpool.

The Reds beat Bournemouth 3-0 to move three points clear with both sides having played the same amount of games.
